A friend of ours gave Brian the first book in the Percy Jackson series for his birthday one year. We finished the series a few years ago, and we loved it. I've always liked Greek mythology, and this put a fun, modern twist on the old stories. Don't expect anything terribly profound; they were written middle school kids. They're great for reading out loud on car trips--they made getting stuck in rush hour traffic during our house hunting days bearable. Read them to your eight and nine-year-olds too.
